Environmental Sustainability Statement

We strive to be the best business we can be for the planet. We commit to embedding the environmental sustainability ethos into our business operations and will ensure the following:

We will minimise the amount of water we use

• Using water efficient equipment such as dual flush toilets in the centre, tap aerators etc
• Ensuring the shop tap is correctly turned off and not dripping.
• Undertaking regular water audits to identify leaks and ways to minimise water use

We will minimise the amount of energy we use

• Maximising our use of natural ventilation and lighting
• Installing energy efficient equipment such as LED lights, timers, etc
• Only using air conditioning when needed

We will minimise the amount of waste to landfill that we generate

• Sourcing suppliers who provide in bulk and minimise packaging
• Using suppliers who take back packaging
• Avoiding products that have excessive packaging
• Finding creative ways to repurpose waste to avoid it going to landfill
• Recycling all waste that cannot be repurposed

We will minimise the amount of private vehicular transport for business purposes

• Sourcing suppliers who deliver in bulk
• Using local suppliers
• Using virtual meetings
• Using public transport or active transport (walking, bicycle) for business needs

We will educate the public on environmental sustainability whenever we can

• Promoting our sustainability achievements to our customers
• Incentivising our customers to be sustainable (eg discounts on sustainable products)
• Providing information on sustainable products or practices that are relevant to our business

We will support our staff in their work/life balance

• Offer our staff flexible working hours
• Providing our staff with personal development opportunities
• Incentivising our staff to volunteer in the community

We will live by the waste management hierarchy of Avoid – Reduce - Reuse – Recycle

• Sustainability checklists will be placed next to light switches
• Sustainability checklists will be made available for opening and closing the shop

Community Support

• Volunteering at community events/fundraisers
• Provide products to be included in community fundraisers
• Engaging community in shop events such as author readings etc
• Give our time to educate the community on our sustainability initiatives
